Let’s crack on!

What’s on in June

If you’re looking for a glimpse into the foundations of real Cornish life, then consider spending some time at the Royal Cornwall show in Wadebridge!

One of the premier agricultural festivals in the country, the Royal Cornwall show boasts a range of activities and exhibitions that show off the best of what Cornwall has to offer.

Your kids will love the opportunity to meet all the farm animals, while other members of the family can enjoy food and drink stalls serving up local delicacies. With show jumping, dog shows, live music and traditional dancing, you’re guaranteed to wander across something to please everyone.

The Golowan festival in Penzance is a traditional Cornish midsummer festival. Spanning 10 glorious days, the beautiful town of Penzance comes to life for a celebration of everything Cornish!

Golowan Festival really has just about everything - parades, shows, events, food, drink, fancy dress, fireworks, and more!

If you’re visiting Cornwall in mid-June, it’s absolutely worth having a look at the festival schedule and seeing if there’s anything that will tickle your fancy!

Summertime and music festivals go together like ale jugs and hands, and the Falmouth Sea Shanty festival may be one of the most unique festival experiences you ever have!

Wandering around Falmouth during the sea shanty festival will take you straight back in time to the golden days when sailors ran the world. There are venues dotted all around the town, largely in comfortably close proximity to several ale houses, where you can immerse yourself in some truly historical traditional folk music.

You’ll not experience anything like it anywhere else in the world, so if you have the chance to be there, then don’t miss out!

A double whammy! At the same time as the sea shanties roar out all around Falmouth, modern day sailors take to the sea to battle it out during the Falmouth Classics regatta!

Find yourself a pleasant spot to settle in and watch some fantastic sailing races, or just sit back and enjoy the parades showing off a whole host of classic boats. With the sea shanty festival as well, it’s a brilliant nautical weekend!

Rounding out the month is one of the oldest midsummer festivals held in Cornwall, the Mevagissey feast week. The name refers to the feast of St. Peter, the patron saint of fishermen, who, as you can imagine, holds a special place in the hearts and history of many a Cornish man and woman!

While Mevagissey is a little farther out from Helston, we absolutely think it’s worth the trip - it’s a fearsomely beautiful seaside village, and the festival itself has all the activities and events you’d want from a summer festival.

If you have the chance to go, you should absolutely take it!

So what’s the plan?

And so there we go! 5 recommendations for things to do out and about in Cornwall in June! These are genuinely some of the best events of the season - and we’re not just saying that. The sea shanty festival is one of our favourite weekends as a family every year! We hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do.
